Common Questions about the Flameproofing Process

The responsibility of having your company property fireproofed according to the law and FDNY regulations is an essential one. It's so critical that lives may actually depend on this one action. There are many things that you as a business owner should be aware of when it comes to this important task of flameproofing. Today we are going to discuss some need-to-know items in regards to flameproofing.

First, you want to take great consideration in choosing a flameproofing company to do the job. A legit fireproofing company will hold a valid C-15 Certificate of Fitness, which is issued by the FDNY.  This certificate authorizes them to perform flameproofing treatments and issue flameproofing affidavits to business owners.

As a C-15 Certificate of Fitness holder, there are many requirements that we must follow.  First, the FDNY mandates that we personally perform or supervise all flameproofing treatments, not outsource them.  Also, we must personally perform or supervise the flame testing of the materials that have been treated. Should an item fail the flame test, we must retreat the items until they passed.  This being the case, a flameproofing affidavit can only be issued once all items have passed the flame test. This offers your business the highest level of safety and also protects the integrity of our business as well. Additionally, the flame repellents that are used for the treatments must be FDNY approved.
